And then 2014 came,…

Wow. Time flies. The past few months threw a lot at us,…at me. It was one of those no preschooling due to bronchitis-walking pneumonia-Crafter’s Market planning-small group leading-adoption conference going-party planning-Christmas decorating-Christmas shopping-dang it’s cold outside-my house needs cleaning-laundry is always behind type past 2-3 months. I know, excuses, excuses…but when it came time for A&H’s bedtimes…blogging never sounded like something I wanted to do, so I didn’t. For one thing, that walking pneumonia knocked me on my backside. Two rounds of antibiotics later, it was finally gone after about 30ish days. No bueno.

So like I said, no preschool has been happening since late October. Ash-man was the first to get bronchitis around Halloween and we all went downhill from there. My plan is to start up again tomorrow. We will start up with “H”.

I need to do a Journey post about our little outing/getting her inspected in late October. We also had a photo shoot during that time. We haven’t worked on her much since the cold set in.

Christmas was good. I helped plan a women’s event at church which included a Crafter’s Market that supported our churches 3-year campaign “The 13”. That was a lot of fun to help with. I got to use my organizational gifts as well as meet and serve with some wonderful ladies. The Lord totally blessed our event, and I can’t wait to see what He has in store for next year! But because I helped plan that, I felt like I was running to catch up with everything else for quite awhile. We typically put up decor and start Christmas shopping the day after Thanksgiving. Not so this year. I think this year (2014) I need to start doing some Christmas planning starting in July.

Bill’s Berry Farm at 6 degrees. Can you tell our kids are oozing with Christmas cheer?
We take this picture every year. I think next year I’ll make them hold me 😉
We hosted a Cookie Swap at our home for our cul-de-sac neighbors. We had so much fun! I was such an easy party to throw together, and we loved having the neighbors over! I hope it becomes an annual event.
We also had a Very Hipster Christmas party with a bunch of our friends. Adults only of course.
All the mustaches, faux glasses, and kitschy non-mainstream stuff you could handle.
Nathan cut out this deer silhouette and spray painted it metallic silver. Miss H loved it so much that it’s now hanging in her room. She’s hip like that.
Flannel, slouchy beanies, rolled up skinnies= the hippest crowd around.
Mug swap at the hipster party. It was awesome. We will do this again.
A&H in their Christmas Eve get-up.
Christmas morning, reading about Jesus’ birth from the Jesus Storybook Bible. Those kids slept in until 8am on Christmas btw…and would have slept longer if we had let them. Lame.

New Year means reflecting, new goals, hopes, prayers, resolutions. The Lord has laid a few on my heart for this year:

  • Limit myself to one item of clothing purchase per month. Be more purposeful about using what I’ve already got in my wardrobe.
  • Read more books, study more scripture. I have my quiet time every morning, but I want to add in more time to study The Word. My plan is to set aside one afternoon a week to study something from my One Year Bible reading.
  • Journal more/write out my prayers. I seem to process things so much better if I write it down. My mentor Sue has really encouraged me to do this.
  • Less social media, more face-to-face social interaction. I’ve signed off Facebook and IG for now. Still not 100% sure why The Lord asked this of me…I think there’s a lot of reasons really. For one thing, it’s so much easier to focus on my family and what The Lord expects of me when I’m not constantly checking up on other people or feeling “bothered” by posts. For now, I’m enjoying the break, and just waiting on The Lord for what to do and when to do it.
  • Take better care of my teeth and skin. Silly I know…but seriously, I’m really bad about flossing and washing my face every night. I also haven’t been to the dentist in about 2 years. I’m doing pretty good on this one so far. I’ve flossed my teeth and washed my face every night AND made myself a dentist appointment. Win, win,….eh…I don’t know yet.

Well, that’s where I’ve been and what we’ve been up to. Sorry for the silence. I hope to not drop off like that again.

Happy New Year and press on!!

Jaimi
