Hello hello! We recently visited the Topeka Zoo, and I wanted to share about our time there! Perhaps you live close to the Topeka or KC area and have never visited…here’s what we thought about it!
Topeka is a little over one hour west of us. We decided on Labor Day that we would go check out the Topeka Zoo…we have a membership to the KC Zoo so it was half price for us to get in…the regular price for admission is very inexpensive and I believe it cost us $10 to get in.
It’s a small zoo and you can easily make it through the entire place in one morning or afternoon…unlike some zoos where it could take you two days to see everything! The Topeka zoo is very walkable and won’t tire out young kids too quickly.
One thing we really liked about this zoo is how close the animals are! Very easy to see all of them! We even heard lions roaring as we walked in the entrance!
Inside the gorilla viewing building…nice waterfall!
Lots of little places to stop and check out or play on!
We spotted the lions! It looked like they were waiting for food.
They made miss J smile 🙂
The tiger came right up to the window!
The play area was fabulous. Couple of little play forts/structures, things to climb on, a tricycle track, and picnic tables! We ate lunch here and let the kids play a bit. I think there was some kind of gold mining trough too, but I didn’t walk over and check it out.
The butterfly exhibit was great! Beautiful flowers and lots of butterflies!
Bears up in a tree in the North America exhibit.
And A&H enjoyed the little pretend rangers station.
Overall this was a nice zoo. Easy to see the animals, not a huge place, and some great places for kids to play. We also got A&H each a passport (50 cents in the front entrance gift shop) and they could go to specific exhibits listed in the passport, answer questions and get a stamp. A couple exhibits didn’t have the stamp station, so we couldn’t complete the book…however it does say if you complete it you get a prize. I wish I could tell you answering every question is worth the prize…but it def gives kids something to do and makes it more “educational”…so thats a win! Plus A&H still have their passports and use them at home for different things they play together. I don’t know if we would ever go back to Topeka specifically to go to the zoo again, but I’m glad we have been there. I would say it’s worth the drive from KC! Plus the park across the street from the zoo is fabulous. Seriously, this park is amazing. I wish I had taken pictures of it. There are multiple play structures, statue type things kids can climb on, a train, and tons of shade. There’s also a couple play structures that are specially made for little little ones,…like ones who are just learning to walk! Mr. E was very happy about this! He climbed stairs to his little hearts content! More parks need equipment like this!
You can see the equipment is very low to the ground…not so terrifying for parents of little ones!
Lots of swings around too! Miss J loves to swing! So once you’re done at the zoo, expect your kids to want to play at the park! And then they will be good and tired for the trip back home! Bonus!
Well, that’s all I have for today!
